“This journal and its author at-a-glance”
The Author
Name: Scott C
Age: 30
Location: Hattiesburg, MS and Binghamton, NY (on occasion)
Job: Student
Relationship status: Engaged to be married
Education:
M.A. in English literature with concentration in Creative Writing, Binghamton U.
B.A. in English, Binghamton University
A.S. in Communications/Media Arts, Broome Community College
Interests: See below
All-time (top six) favorite music artists, ranked in order by impact/influence on the author’s life - also known as "The Stone Six":
Jim Croce, Jimmy Buffett, Frank Zappa, The Doors, Nirvana, Rush.
The “unofficial” seventh artist/stone: Warren Zevon
Other web-based projects:
Author of the [defunct] LiveJournal “Can we just discuss?”
Former pop culture writer for “Moodspins.insidepulse.com”
Author of the (once on-line) serial story “The Promised Land”
Former Member and Webmaster of “The Vestal Violators” theater troupe
The Journal
Title: “So you wanna be a doctor?”
Subtitle: “One man’s journey for a PhD”
Main purpose: To chronicle the author’s efforts to get in, survive and get out of a doctoral program – from the earliest conceptions of the idea to the end, graduation or failure.
Secondary purpose: To act as a “news source” for friends and colleagues interested in the latest happenings to/with the author
Notes:
- No journal entry will be “friends only” (anyone, anywhere may read everything)
- Entries are uploaded/published when there is need for one
- An above-average level of grammar and spelling is expected from the author
- Entries are generally long, but a “cut line” is provided out of courtesy
- Almost all entries are uploaded as they were originally written ("first draft" form). Consequently, some entries may "ramble" and be hard to follow. The author apologizes for this but he dislikes editing his own work, particularly journal entries.
- Reader comments are welcome but the author will never “beg” for them
- Entries dealing solely or strictly with the author’s personal life will try to be avoided, unless such content is required or is connected to the journal’s main purpose (or asked for by the author, in his annual “Ask Scott C” entries for example)
LJ “friending”: The author does not mind you “friending” his journal, but asks that you not be offended if he doesn’t always “friend” in return.
For Further Reading If this is your first visit to this journal, the author recommends that you read "A Blogger's Disclaimer" found on his journal at http://drscottc.livejournal.com/439.html
